My #1 Business Marketing Tip: Be Consistent
My number one tip for marketing your business is to be consistent. It’s not the sexiest strategy in the world, but it helps me grow my business and attract new clients.
Being consistent means showing up regularly on your social media or your marketing platform of choice. Whether that’s once a day or three times a week on socials, a weekly email to your subscribers, a weekly podcast or a fortnightly in-depth blog post.
Set a schedule that works for you and stick to it so your followers know when to expect your next dose of valuable content.
Showing up regularly helps keeps you and your business front of mind and boosts brand awareness. Potential clients might not need your services now, but they may be in the consideration stage, following you to see who you are and what you do. If you don’t post consistently, you may be forgotten by the time they get to the buying stage.
Some people might not be interested in your services, but they have a friend or family member who needs your expertise. I’ve gotten a few clients referred to me by people who follow me and have never personally used my services.
Remember that although you may sometimes feel like you’re shouting into the abyss when marketing your business, people notice your content – even if they don’t like or comment. There are more than a few lurkers out there, reading every bit of content you write and getting ready to use your services.
Being consistent in your marketing efforts and sharing regular content also shows potential clients that you’re running an active business. Have you ever checked out a business online only to find they last posted on social media two years ago, or their website looks like it hasn’t been updated for a decade? It doesn’t instil confidence, does it? Are you more likely to choose the business that looks full of life with fresh content or the business that seems closed?
Consistency also helps to create a solid emotional connection between your business and your ideal audience. People want to do business with other people. Regularly showing up, sharing your story, and letting people get to know you and your experience promotes the all-important KNOW, LIKE and TRUST factor. People are more likely to buy from a business they feel they have a relationship with.
My tip: Consistent effort gets consistent results.
